I’ve been so blessed in my life by the stories of others. I want to thank those of you who have come forward and volunteered to share your story. It’s not easy to put the most intimate details of your life out there for the world to read, but easy or not, I believe God encourages us to use the chapters in our lives to help others.
One such story came to me in the form of a woman who had traveled with her husband to attend the same marriage conference that my ex-husband and I were attending. This wasn’t a typical marriage conference for happy couples wishing to grow their intimacy. This was targeted at couples who were on the brink of divorce. For a majority of couples there, their spouse had cheated. There were about 40 couples total at the conference that weekend and at certain points, we were broken up into smaller groups and put into classrooms to complete specific tasks. You want to talk about sharing intimate details of your life in front of others; each one of us had to stand in front of the classroom and answer questions about our relationship with our spouse. During these intimate groups, my eye caught one of the other woman’s eye as I listened intently to her story. I could tell that she felt like me, tired of always being the one to put in most of the effort in her marriage.
On the last day of the conference, she approached me saying, “I’m truly sorry for what you’re going through and I wish you all the best. You know, years ago, a woman approached me and gave me this ring. She told me she wanted me to have it to remember that God is always with me. I’ve had it in the ash tray of my car forever, not knowing what to do with it. I knew I wanted to give it to someone who needed it. God told me to give it to you.”
I haven’t taken it off since that day. Her story and her obedience to God’s prompting gave me hope during the most dim season of my life.
I truly do have a passion for helping others feel encouraged and motivated. It’s the entire basis for my starting this blog and I hope that as it grows, you are blessed by what is has to offer. If you haven’t had a chance to read any of the True Stories featured on Lettered Roots, I encourage you to head over to the True Stories tab and start reading. If you feel inspired and want to do your part by being featured, think about submitting your own story. I promise, you’ll be even more blessed by sharing than those who read it.
Are you in need of some encouragement today?
One of my favorite resources for encouragement is the well-known Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence book by Sarah Young. If you don’t have a copy of this book, you need to get it today.
A similar source of encouragement for me that always seems to hit the nail on the head is called Loop, a digital devotion that is delivered to your e-mail twice a week. It’s free and similar to Sarah Young’s book in that it reads as if it’s God speaking directly. You can sign up here.
Back into hibernation I go. What’s up with these frigid temps?! I thought we were springing forward..
